Hi Kim,
I just found you through a local meet up group, and seeing you were from Green Bay had to stop over & say "Hi"! You do beautiful work, I'm anxious to see more and hope that we run into each other someday. I'm also adding your link on my blog under the "of local interest" link list, if you don't mind. Time to break up those lists & sort them better, but for now, that's where I'll put you.

Sorry it took me so long to post. I will be putting together a post on finding the right materials to work with...especially difficult when working with stretch jewelry. But the simple answer is to feel what each feels like. I'm looking for specific answers and info, but my current practice (buy it and try it) does answer questions.

Making jewelry with it requires several bits of information. One is size without stretching, the other is size when stretched. Jelly cord seems to stretch the most. Most of these require knotting and slipping is a problem.

Larger beads and pieces of metal will do well on the style of material you refer to as stretch magic and other brand names. Any metal pieces need to be filed neatly so the material doesn't snag. The stretchier the material, the more often it will need to be re-strung.

With jelly cord (which stretches enough for my customer to have it over her hand readily enough) the hardest problem is knotting it. Surgeons knots work best so far. Other materials were not stretchy enough to fit her well, though they would hold well with surgeon's knots as well.

Do not crimp stretch-type materials. This can easily cause a break.

And good luck to everyone!

Yea, I'm in the same boat. I've seen some stretch jewelry that didn't look too hard to make, but I didn't even know where to start.
